Default How Would You Describe: The Perfect Guild Leader?

How Would You Describe:
The Perfect Guild Leader

Part 1 of a Mutli-Part Questionaire....

What in your personal experienced opinion makes a great Guild Leader?
His poise as the commander, his experience in dealing with situations. His seemingly endless knowledge of GuildWars?

What is your ideal GuildWars Guild Leader profile?

Edit:1 Thankyou for the overwhelming responses.
2 This is just for everyone to express their opinion. Members, Officers, and Leaders all have different ideas on what a Leader should be. I'm just reading to see what the general concensus is.
3 Thanks for keeping this thread clean, the possitive, relevant responses are good

This is 1 of a series of question-threads. I am just constructing a list for people with time to read, so they can really admire their own qualities or learn what qualities they should strive for in order to be successful in the GuildWars Society.

His or her experience in dealing with situations. Another big one is treating all members fairly Just because you like someone more doesn't mean you should pick favourites all the time

*edited several times to get thoughts straight.

One who kicks people for racism/insulting fellow guildies, instead of looking the other way...

Find someone of this stature, and you have found a GOD!

There is no perfect guild leader, really. It's all based on how they can handle the pressure of the position, even if it's a game, to keep a big guild going, it takes a lot. As a guild leader myself, it's all about keeping your members happy. To be a great leader, you have to handle everything that comes your way with intelligence and make sure you understand every angle of the conflict. You have to be able to help, and know what you're talking about when there are questions. They have to be laid back, easy to talk to, have a sense of humor, and geniunely care about each person in the guild. I'm not saying they have to talk to you about all your personal problems..but they should ask questions of how each member wants the guild to be like. They should include everyone in the dealings of the guild. That's my idea of what a leader should be like, really.

My Guild leader is female. And she always handles situations (though rare that any EVER occur) perfectly well by directly addressing the situation and dealing with it accordingly.

For a PVP guild has good experience in PVP, normally the caller - makes new builds, active and always trying to set up teams

I cannot stress activity enough. I know lots of people have lives, though being a Guild Leader is a fulltime commitment.

In all honesty, in lots of my guilds, the officers meet the above traits moreso than the leader, oh well.

What I always hated is that the officers are usually around more often and are a lot more casual - as such I tend to act nicer and make a better impression on them than on the person who really matters - the Guild Leader.

Leaders should be open to ideas and respect everyone. In my old PvE guild, the leader was probably one of the more age discriminate and disrespecting players...

Basically you described Racthoh.

Nah, I agree with Malice. They have to be able to handle things though, like e-drama. Don't want them to rage out of control and kick everyone or reform a guild 3 times. >.>

- mature
- active player
- Fairly knowledgable about Guild Wars. Doesn't have to be an expert in all areas though.

After that it depends on the guild. A guild leader should know why he started the guild and should outline the goals and/or purpose of the guild either in the login greeting message or on the guild's website.

A leader should also recruit only those players that will help the guild with it's goals.

If the guild has a set of rules, it is the leader's responsibility to insure that every member knows the rules and that they are reasonably enforced.

Every guild is different. Some welcome all players with open arms. Some are focused on establishing a reputation as a top pvp guild. Some just a small collection of real life friends.

If you want to be a guild leader then ask yourself why you are starting the guild. A kid that starts a guild just because he can is usually a poor leader and these guilds fall apart as soon as the kid realizes that spamming "New guild PLEASE JOIN. We have cool cape!!!!!!!" for 6 hours in Kamadan isn't going to get him many quality recruits.

- Humorous
- Doesn't play favorites
- Doesn't abandon his/her guildies to run off with friends on a regular basis
- Knows when to take action against something/someone, and knows how to carry it out
- Someone you wouldn't mind having a conversation with. A leader is not a figurehead who makes decisions, a leader should be someone who is easily likeable.
- Someone who knows that he/she and everyone else is only a human with many imperfections, and knows how to accept each individual for who they are.
- Preferably active and knows a good amount about the game
- Someone who keeps to his/her word

Always remember, and never forget young jedi....
We live under the rule of the Empire....1 law (Racthoh)...2 boots! (Big ones too!)
OT..kinda-sorta:
A good guild leader knows the game is a game, knows the meta, and gets to know the people he has power over.
No need for QQ, personality conflicts and chit...HE thinks you F*ed up...your gone...and your little dog Toto too!
nuff said.

A good guild leader has to be in control and take the iniative!

without making people mad, of course.
